You Are Here (Watching Out)

The multi-channel video work You Are Here (Watching Out) takes as its subject matter the street directly behind the gallery wall on which it is installed. Thirteen monitors screen fragmentary footage shot on the street; they are discontinuous in time, though spatially related, and together they make up a fractured yet coherent view. Part meditation, part interrogation, the work invites viewers to pay both pleasurable and critical attention to the spaces of everyday life, drawing out beauty in the details and provoking questions about the politics of urban change.
